Jim Winter
Jim has an exceptionally broad and diverse background in government and civilian industry. He was an officer in the United States Navy, commanding over 250 people. He taught at several graduate schools in the US and Australia. He has worked in project management in technology, weapons systems, construction, and oil & gas. Jim employs this knowledge and experience in several different ways. He is a Director and Senior Consultant with Safety Leaders Group, a global organization which specializes in organizational development and leadership consulting to government and commercial firms on four continents. His main focus is safety leadership for heavy industry – especially mining and oil & gas projects and operations. He has been a Senior Lecturer and Adjunct Professor with Curtin's Graduate School of Business for the past nine years, teaching strategic procurement, leadership, small business development, organizational behaviour, transportation logistics, quality management, and project management. He has attained the internationally recognized qualification as a Project Management Professional (PMP), and has extensive experience with project management in the U.S. Department of Defense, where he served on the project teams for the Tomahawk and Harpoon missile systems. Subsequent Dept of Defense positions included Professor of Acquisition Management at the Defense Systems Management College in Washington, D.C., where he taught project management and served as course director for the U.S. government's most requested acquisition course. He is a sought after public speaker with several conference keynote addresses to his credit.
